Nicknamed as Cher, Cherilyn Sarkisian was born on May 20, 1947 in El Centro, California, United States. She is also known by other names like Cher Bono and Cheryl LaPiere. Her parents John Sarkisian and Georgia Holt got divorced when she was only 9 months old due to her father’s alcohol and drug dependence behavior. Later her mother remarried several times and moved a lot. Cher’s childhood had been difficult as she had to experience extreme poverty and once was with the orphanage for weeks. She is believed to have an Armenian—Cherokee-German-English and American ancestry.

From a young age Cher had the intense desire to be famous but had no clear goals. She acted in several shows as a an extra and in her Montclair College Preparatory School she came into notice due to her striking looks and her vibrant and confident personality.
