Lee was born on 22nd May of 1922 in London. He was the son of Colonel Geoffrey Trollope and Estelle Marie. He was born and brought up in the background of the World War.
His parents got divorced when Lee was only four years old, and he moved to Switzerland with her mother and sister. He played his very first role in a drama named Rumpelstiltskin while he was in Switzerland. Later he returned to London again and went to the Summer Fields School. His acting inspiration mostly came during his school days, and he played in different roles in school dramas.
But those days did not stay for long. Soon at the age of 17, he went to the service of Finnish Army and later served British Army and Royal Air Force. Till 1946, he had his military career going on, but after Second World War, his life was changed drastically, and he again returned to his childhood love, acting.
In 1947, he joined the Rank Organisation and starred in many films such as ‘Corridor of Mirrors’, ‘Hamlet’, ‘Moulin Rouge’ etc. But his actual career began when he played the villain roles in different horror movies.
Throughout the 1950s’, Lee did many television shows and movies but the monster role in ‘The Curse of Frankenstein’ was a blessing in disguise for him. After that Lee associated with the ‘Hammer’ production and never looked back again. He continued playing Dracula in different Hammer series, and every movie was a blockbuster at the box office. He also appeared in a number of films in Europe such as ‘Nothing but the Night’ (1973), ‘To the Devil a Daughter ‘(1976), ‘The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes’ (1970), ‘The Three Musketeers’ (1973), ‘The Four Musketeers: Milady’s Revenge’ (1974), and the James Bond film ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ (1974).
He was married to former Danish model Birgit Krøncke Lee and had two children. He died on 7th June 2015 for his problems in the respiratory system.
